"Hopefully this clean, quiet system will emerge on regular bikes at reasonable prices."

Let's hope so Gil. Dropping almost $1K for non-competitive bike is a bit indulgent, but money isn't always the bottom line for everyone. A 1985 Picnica...wow, really? I'm interested to know if you've had any problems with the belt wearing out during that length of time.

My 1985 Bridgestone Picnica (production bicycle) with rubber belt drive is "jes' fine," as Grundoon, the groun'chunk chile, in Pogo would say...So the Trekatrons have introduced, but not invented, a "new" (old)technology ---over priced and over due. Hopefully this clean, quiet system will emerge on regular bikes at reasonable prices.
