Author Nora Roberts Opens Bed & Breakfast With The Writer In Mind

by Robin on February 28, 2009

Boonsboro Inn

I came across this jewel in a hunt for unique vacations for writers.  Located amongst the rolling hills of western Maryland, Boonsboro Inn recently went through a $3 million dollar renovation led by famous author Nora Roberts.  Seven of the eight rooms in this exceptional bed and breakfast are named after famous literary couples. How fun it would be to nestle in the Jane and Rochester room of Jane Eyre or the Westley and Buttercup room of The Princess Bride.  Each room is meticulously decorated from floor to ceiling.  Rates start at $220 per night.

The town of Boonsboro is a family affair for Nora Roberts.  Her husband, Bruce Wilder runs the local Turn the Page Bookstore cafe with a room dedicated to just Nora Roberts.  The couple also opened Gifts Inn BoonsBoro where regional artists can showcase their wares.  If you’re hungry stop in at Vesta Pizzeria & Family Restaurant, owned by Roberts’ son Dan and his wife, Stacie.

BoonsBoro Inn looks like one of those places that if you just let ‘em know you’re coming, they’ll leave the light on.  What an extraordinary gift for a writer or Nora Roberts fan!  Stay for a weekend and indulge in the latest Nora Roberts novel or start the first act of your screenplay.  Check out the USA Today video coverage.

Look Mom No Chain!

by Robin on November 13, 2008

Aside from relaxing excursions along the San Diego downtown waterfront, I am by no means a bike enthusiast. However, technology just melts my butter.   Trek’s District bike does away with the infamous, greasy, old chain and replaces it with a belt drive made out of a carbon fiber composite. It requires no lubrication and doesn’t wear out.

The District bike just has that IT factor - that minimalist, Apple-sleek appeal.  I love the old-world, brown leather seat and handlebar paired with an Alpha Black Aluminum frame.  I can see you now, my writer brethren - traipsing the urban jungle, conscious of your carbon footprint, laptop tucked away in a cool messenger bag and slung over your backside…Woosh! Heads turn as you skirt by atop the Trek District bound for your favorite writing spot.  Godspeed. And watch out for that pothole!

MSRP $929.99

Founders’ Set to Attend Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival

by Michelle on June 5, 2008

Well, we are gearing up for the 25th Anniversary of the Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival.  The Festival takes place here in beautiful Temecula, CA this weekend – June 6th through the 8th.

Come and join us for musical entertainment, wine tasting, hot air balloon shows and rides, a kids fair, arts & crafts, exhibits, and food.  The wine tasting (yes, I know… I already said wine tasting), features premium wines from numerous Temecula Valley wineries, as well as others from Southern California.  LitCentral would love to see you there!

And for those of you who love gadgets as much as we do, even when it comes to wine there’s geek’dm to be had. I  have already reserved the babysitter, and placed my order for the coolest, craziest, most Tim-the-Toolman-Taylor corkscrew I have yet to see -  The Wine Ratchet Magnum

Wine Ratchet Magnum

This wine opener operates like a ratchet wrench, and the makers at BuiltyNY say it’s as easy to use as:
1. Ratchet Down
2. Spin the Cork
3. Pull & Pop!
Retail $60. This unique gadget definitely gives the corkscrew a unique twist!
